Elements of a review

At a minimum, each review must contain these elements: (1) a complete citation (refer to Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed., 2001), (2) brief summary of the content and organization, (3) primary and secondary audiences for the title, (4) particular application/appeal of the title to our readers, (5) major strengths and weaknesses of the title, including comparison with other works available (e.g., books on the same topic, equipment with similar features, or software serving the same functions).

The following elements are also highly recommended, although not required in every review: (1) description of the author’s/ creator’s purpose, (2) scholarly/research basis of the title and/or comparison with related scholarship/research.

Submission process

Submit reviews in paper or electronic text form (MS Word for Windows preferred). Reviews must conform to the style of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed., 2001). Citations of electronic documents not covered by the APA manual should conform to the style specified by APA Style.org (http://www.apastyle.org/elecref.html), or in Electronic Style: A Guide to Citing Electronic Information by Nancy B. Crane and Xia Li (2nd ed., Information Today, 1996). Name(s), title(s), address(es), phone and FAX numbers, Internet address(es), and affiliation(s) of all authors should appear at the end of the review.

Submissions accepted for publication will be acknowledged by the Reviews editor, who will then request disk/electronic submission by the author(s) in accordance with the Information for readers and authors: Publication process.

Manuscripts submitted will not be returned unless special arrangements are made in advance with the Reviews editor.

Although not required, a recent b&w photograph of each reviewer is desired and strongly encouraged.

Review and editing process

All contributions will be reviewed by the Reviews editor. The editor reserves the right to edit all contributions and will only contact authors for clarification, as needed. The final decision as to whether a review will be published lies with the editor and editor-in-chief.
