College & University Media Review Editors
The College & University Media Review editor and associate editors shall be appointed from the Active membership for two (2) year terms and may be appointed for a second consecutive term. Initially, one or two of the associate editor positions shall be appointed for a one-year term to create continuity. Editor and associate editors to serve on Publications Advisory Board.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- prior publication experience
- excellent writing and editing skills
- knowledge of Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association
- excellent communication skills
- good organization skills
- ability to generate ideas
- ability to work on a team
- knowledge of CCUMC membership and media and technology field imperative
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The editor shall be responsible for overall oversight, coordination, and consistency of style.
In addition, the editor and associate editors shall be responsible for:
- developing a system and time line for identifying and setting issue themes and identifying potential articles/authors for each issue
- working with interest group chairs, the editor-in-chief, and others as appropriate in the identification and solicitation of articles or article ideas
- soliciting articles for each issue
- selecting articles to be included in each regular issue, consulting with Editorial Board and editor-in-chief as needed
- communicating editorial and photo/digital image guidelines to authors
- editing articles according to Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association
- forwarding final articles to managing editor in format preferred by design and layout company
TIME COMMITMENT:
The time commitment to edit individual articles may be substantial. The addition of associate editors will help to spread this commitment more evenly among the editorial team. Editorial work will be concentrated over a one-month period, twice a year, dependent on publication schedule. Article identification and solicitation will be ongoing.
SUPPORT NEEDED:
Access to e-mail, phone, fax. Ability to make long distance phone calls. Access to computer and word processing programs [Word (preferred) or WordPerfect]; laser printer. Ability to convert from one computer platform to the other (e.g., Windows to Mac or vice versa). Ability to send files as attachments helpful.
SUPPORT AVAILABLE:
The editor, associate editors, and editor-in-chief should work as a team. Interest Group chairs, the board of directors, and other committees should be asked to provide input on topics for articles and potential authors. Printing and mailing services will be provided.
