CCUMC Proceedings Editor
The Proceedings editor shall be appointed from either the Active, Corporate, or Life membership for a two (2) year term and may be appointed for a second consecutive term. Proceedings editor to serve on Publications Advisory Board and be an ex officio member of the Program Committee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior publication experience.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent editing and proofreading skills.
- Desk top publishing expertise
- Tenacity, skepticism.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Proceedings editor is responsible for:
- compiling annual conference proceedings.
- attending Program Committee meetings.
- contacting speakers as soon as they are identified to solicit program information and any handouts.
- specifying format required for proceedings.
- reading material submitted and negotiating changes when necessary.
- assimilating information into a functional publication with a consistent look.
- providing camera ready copy to proceedings printer.
- arranging with printer to have copies sent to conference site and Executive Office.
- attending meetings of the Publications Advisory Board.
- contributing to the CCUMC Style Guidelines.
TIME COMMITMENT:
The proceedings must to the printer at least one month prior to the fall meeting. Work is concentrated in the 4-6 weeks preceding this deadline.
SUPPORT NEEDED:
Access to e-mail, phone, fax. Ability to make long distance phone calls. Access to computer and word processing programs; laser printer. Ability to convert from one computer platform to the other (e.g., Windows to Mac or vice versa).
LINKAGES:
• Editor-in-chief. The editor-in-chief chairs the Publications Advisory Board and is ultimately responsible for maintaining the publication schedule of all CCUMC publications. As such, the editor-in-chief is a sounding board and a resource and should be consulted about changes in policy and design, and whenever problems or sensitive issues arise. Additionally, the editor-in-chief may be able to provide logistics support depending on the resources available at his or her institution. The editor-in-chief is the official spokesperson and representative of the Publications Advisory Board to the Board of Directors.
• Publications Advisory Board. The Publications Advisory Board is charged with implementing, managing, and reviewing all official publications of CCUMC; establishing general guidelines and editorial policy; coordinating all publishing activity; and continually analyzing CCUMC publication needs. The Proceedings editor sits on the Publications Advisory Board.
• Program Committee. The Proceedings editor needs to work closely with the Program Committee so that speakers are aware of their responsibilities to submit materials within designated time lines. It is also important to keep apprised of programming changes so that proceedings accurately reflect the conference schedule. The Proceedings editor is an ex officio member of the Program Committee and should attend as many meetings as possible, always stressing the need to finalize programming as far in advance as possible.
