CCUMC Leader Editorial Assistant

The Editorial Assistant shall be an Active member appointed by the editor-in-chief in consultation with the Leader editor for a one-year term and may be reappointed for a second consecutive term.

The Editorial Assistant works under the direction of the Leader editor.

Columns were established to give Sustaining members the opportunity to share news and information about staff appointments, catalog announcements, awards, new addresses and phone numbers, new services, etc. Items are to be composed and submitted by an active sustaining member. Press releases and new release announcements are not acceptable submissions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To edit submissions from CCUMC Sustaining members for Mail Box column, which appears in each regular issue of the Leader (September, January, and May).
  • Edited submissions are to be no longer than one page each. Neither the Leader editor nor the editorial assistant will summarize information from press releases or new release announcements.
  • In mid-July receive Mail Box submissions from Leader editor for September issue. Return edited material to editor by mid-August.
  • In mid-November receive Mail Box submissions from Leader editor for January issue. Return edited material to editor by mid-December.
  • In mid-March receive Mail Box submissions from Leader editor for May issue. Return edited material to editor by mid-April.
  • To assist the Leader editor with special projects upon request.

TIME COMMITMENT

Time commitment needed to edit materials for each issue is expected to be approximately 10-15 hours.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications include excellent written communication skills. Submission of writing samples is required.

SUPPORT NEEDED

In addition, the Editorial Assistant, Shop Talk must have access to e-mail, phone, and fax.
