CCUMC Publications Advisory Board Member-at-Large
The two members-at-large shall be Active, Sustaining Active, or Life members appointed by the president in consultation with the editor-in-chief for three (3) year terms and each may be reappointed for a second consecutive term. The terms of office should be staggered.
Members-at-large work under the direction of the editor-in-chief. Depending on specific duties and responsibilities, a member-at-large will collaborate with the editor-in-chief, editors, executive director, members of the board of directors, committee and interest group chairs, and the general membership.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- To attend meetings of the Publications Advisory Board at the fall conference.
- To serve in an advisory capacity to the editor-in-chief and editors on oversight and management issues brought before the PAB.
- To establish editorial policy, set general content guidelines, and coordinate publishing activities of all CCUMC publications (print and electronic).
- To contribute to the development and maintenance of the CCUMC Style Guidelines.
- To review CCUMC publication (print and electronic) and promotion activities for adherence to the style guidelines.
- To review publication proposals/opportunities and recommend action to the board of directors.
- To continually analyze CCUMC publication needs, both print and electronic, and recommend appropriate adjustments.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
MEMBER-AT-LARGE (1)
- Develop and maintain the CCUMC Style Guidelines manual.
- Collaborate with the editor-in-chief on content and format.
- Solicit input from each editor regarding design specifications, content and editorial guidelines, etc.
- Solicit input from the Executive Office regarding design specifications, content and editorial guidelines, etc. for the Membership Directory and the Annual Report.
- Review all publications, including the CCUMC Web site, for adherence to these guidelines and notify the editor-in-chief when inconsistencies are identified.
MEMBER-AT-LARGE (2)
- To create and maintain a "Friends of CCUMC" address file to be used for public relations purposes.
- To collaborate with the executive director, editor-in-chief, board members, and the general membership in the development of this list.
- To work with the Executive Office to develop the database, which will be physically located at the Executive Office, as well as a set of input procedures so that records can be created and updated in a timely manner.
- To draft press releases promoting CCUMC activities, awards, publications, etc. as needed for review by the editor-in-chief and the originator of the request, if appropriate.
- To review press releases drafted by others for content and adherence to the style guidelines prior to distribution.
- To explore traditional and electronic ways for CCUMC to promote itself and its activities.
TIME COMMITMENT
The time commitment required to fulfill these duties are ongoing and will vary for each set of duties. Development activities will require more concentrated efforts, maintenance activities a little less. An average time commitment might be 8-10 hours a month.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Prior publication experience. Familiarity with design of Web pages and HTML helpful.
• Prior public relations experience.
• Excellent written communication skills. (Submission of writing samples is required.)
• Past participation in CCUMC activities helpful.
